New Vacuum Tube Monoblock power Amplifier Reference 23

Raysonic Reference 23  is a 2 channel mono-block power amplifier designed for high end audiophiles and dedicated music lovers.

Our goal is to maximize the stability and yet minimize the requirements on adjustments. In order to achieve high quality in both technicality and good sound in music production, our first priority in the circuit design is to achieve low noise and distortion and at the same time maintain a wide band frequency response in the amplifier.

We have chosen KT88 power tube as the core component of triode class-AB1 push pull power amplification stage because of its ultra linearity properties.

We connected the plate grid and the plate of beam power tetrode or pentode power tube in parallel as a triode connection. This can reduce the internal impedance of power tubes largely, and increase the features and fidelity factors.

In addition, four pairs of Russia KT88 beam power tube are used to achieve an output power of 100 watts in this amplifier.Using four pairs of Russia KT88 can reduce 4 times plate resistance; hence ,we can increase the damping factor of the amplifier and the slew rate of the speakers driven by the amplifier.

Most high end audio amplifiers use a plate cathode as a phase splitter. The drawback of this approach is that inconsistent output impedances occur between the positive and negative phase.Because of this reason, a plate cathode based design amplifier will have significant distortion in the high frequency range.

The Raysonic Reference 23 adopts a cathode coupled phase splitter to avoid the above problem, thus we can greatly improve the fidelity factor and add the XLR input function.

The design of Raysonic Reference 23 focuses on its direct and simple operation.

All single paths are hand wired point to piont circuitry that guarantees the production and production flow can work smoothly without mistakes to achieve the highest cost effectiveness.

Audiophiles and music lovers would be able to enjoy a high level of utility and stability from Raysonic Reference 23.

CES & THE Show 2010 • Best of Show

The Raysonic brand name has broken out of the pack among China-manufactured audio products, perhaps because its owners have a foothold in North America because they reside in Canada. The new Reference 23 ($9990/pair) is more powerful and physically bulkier than other Raysonic amps. It uses eight KT88s to produce 100 watts. We're not fond of the prominent tube protector, but we understand why its use is necessary at an audio show.

A pair of Reference 23s drove Acoustic Zen Crescendo speakers ($14,000/pair). Other Raysonic products in use were the C200 preamp ($2890) and CD228 CD player ($4200). All cabling was from Acoustic Zen.

What impressed us most about this system was its delicacy and hint of sweetness amidst a very spacious soundstage. Other Raysonic amps have sounded immediate to the point of forwardness, but the Reference 23s seems to have harnessed the immediacy without putting the soundstage in your lap. We're very intrigued by the CD228, a tubed, fully balanced two-chassis CD player. Look for a TAB review of it sometime in 2010.
